In February 2005, Angela was asked to conduct a youth "rap session" for girls living in the Jonesboro North & South Community Apartments in Atlanta, Georgia. After several sessions, a group of 13 participants was given the name, "Just Girls!". Initially, the focus was female health and abstinence-based sex education but once the need was realized for more in-depth education, the curriculum was expanded to include topics of self-esteem development, substance use prevention, domestic/dating violence prevention, work/study skills development, and financial fitness. Some of the activities included field trips, the annual Mother/Daughter Luncheon, and a Christmas party. These sessions continued until 2009, when the apartment community permanently closed.
Although the program dissolved, Angela's vision never died! In January 2022, the vision was reawakened, and the program was revamped. A new and improved curriculum was developed to include an 8-series program with topics of self-esteem development, sexual health and education, mental health & well-being, physical fitness & nutrition, substance use prevention, study & work skills development, etiquette and social skills, and financial awareness. Several of the classes are named in honor of three important ladies in Angela's life: Lashelle Dixon's "All Things Etiquette!" class, the Doris Dixon-Banks Study & Work Skills Development class, and the Jada Banks Nutrition & Physical Fitness class.
Her vision is to empower girls through fun-filled, life-enhancing activities with the knowledge and skills to maximize their life’s potential as they transition into ladies and grow into women!
